Samuel James HARRELL [Parents] was born on 5 Feb 1839 in Lowndes County (Now Brooks Co.), Georgia. He died on 12 Aug 1905 in Quitman, Georgia. He was buried after 12 Aug 1905 in Elam Cemetery, Dixie, Georgia. Samuel married Laura Jane ALBRITTON on 20 May 1858 in Thomas County, Georgia.
SAMUEL JAMES HARRELL (1839- 1905)
Samuel James was the eighth child of John Spencer and Nancy Ausley Harrell. He was bom on February 5. 1839 in Lowndes, now Brooks County, Georgia. He was married on May 20, 1858, in Thomas County, to Laura Jane Albritton, a daughter of George Washington and Mary Jane Alien Albritton. He spent almost his entire life of sixty-four years in this county. The following children were bom to Samuel James and Mary Jane:
1. Matthew James Harrell, bom May 13, 1859. He married (1) Annie Olivia Winter on May 12, 1879, (2)Adelaide Aliza Groover on February 10, 1884.
2. Robert Jackson Harrell died young.
3. Samuel Thomas Harrell, bom December 30, 1863. He married Minnie Hawkins on May 2, 1886.
4. Amelia Harrell, bom November 19, 1865. She married T. C. Stanaland on February 28, 1884
5. Elizabeth Virginia Harrell, bom January 6, 1869. She married C. Abner Groover on May 30, 1888.
6. Issac Augustus Harrell, bom March 12,1872. He married Margaret Hendry on June 17, 1906.
7. Ann Venitia Harrell, bom February 4, 1875. She married W. S. Lane on November 9, 1902.
8. Margaret Lutitia Harrell, bom August 4, 1877. She married Redding G. Ramsey on June 30,1909.
9. Joseph Edgar Harrell, bom on November 12, 1880. He married Berlon Hodges on July 16,1910.
Samuel James volunteered May 13, 1862, in the Confederate Army, and served in Company K, 50th Georgia Infantry until the close of the war in 1865. He was wounded in the battle at Cedar Creek, Virginia, on October 19, 1864, and was disabled for some time afterward. A miniball which had lodged in his spine was never removed. Samuel James died August 12, 1905 in Brooks County, Georgia. Laura Jane died February 13, 1919. They are both buried in the Elam Cemetery, a few miles from Dixie.
