John S Harrell was born in Brooks Co, GA, Feb 6, 1839, and died in Colquitt Co, Oct 13, 1892. He was reared in Morven Dist to manhood and in Dec 1885 was married to one of Brooks Co's loveliest daughters, Miss Martha, youngest daughter of William Folsom, Esq.
Early in 1857, he moved to Columbia CO, Fl and loved there until 1860, when he moved back to Lowndes Co, where his estimable wife died leaving Willie F Harrell, his only surviving child by this union, an infant two weeks old. Affliction was the more severe as he was forced to leave his motherless child and go to meet the foes of his beloved South in combat. He was married again in 1866 to Miss Cynthia, daughter of Mr Marston Folsom, a woman endowed with qualities that form to make up a good wife, and settle in Colquitt CO, where he filled the office of justice of the Peace, County Surveyor and County Commissioner with honor to himself and satisfaction to the people.
